| Quadra 605 slow ethernet speeds |
Posted by: mcdojf on 2011-08-26 21:55:08 My Quadra 605 is connected to a LAN through an Apple Ethernet LC Twisted-Pair Card. I'm running OS 7.6.1 with TCP/IP under OpenTransport 1.1.1 using DHCP server.
My connection speeds tops out at around 56k/sec. Shouldn't I be seeing much faster speeds?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Posted by: johnklos on 2011-08-27 10:03:01 That depends heavily on what software you're using to do transfers. That'd be a decent speed for certain things (such as data over ssh) or via a browser which has tons of overhead for other things. If you're only getting 50 k/sec or so while transferring using, for instance, AFP, then yes, something's wrong.

Posted by: mcdojf on 2011-08-27 11:28:24 Thanks John. I'm getting about 56K/second when using a web browser. Tried an ftp connection with Fetch 2.1.2 and the speed is a bit better at around 80K/second.

Posted by: Aoresteen on 2012-01-31 13:45:53 How much memory is in your 605? Bumpt it to 132MB if you don't have that much and see if that helsp.

Posted by: mcdojf on 2012-01-31 15:56:07 I tried with both 36MB and 132MB RAM - that didn't seem to make any difference in the speed.

Posted by: pl212 on 2012-02-10 14:01:34 If you're using Fetch for FTP, go into Preferences and set the Buffer to Ethernet or Fast Ethernet. (It defaults to a setting appropriate for a modem.)
This preference may only have a appeared with fetch 3.x and higher -- that's the version you should be using with OpenTransport anyway...
