Can I load 7.5.5 onto a Lombard laptop?
Posted by: mraroid on 2015-07-13 11:20:51
First, please let me know if I have posted to the correct forum.  This laptop may not be a 68K compact Mac, but I am not sure.  I am happy to move this to the a different forum if need be.

I see that the Lombard laptop came with OS 8.6 installed.  Would I have any problems if I installed 7.5.3 or 7.5.5?

Also I see that it takes a ATA hard drive. Would this laptop take a solid state drive?  If not, perhaps a CF card? I see the original drive was 6GBs.

I might be looking for one again.  If you have one for sale, you can contact me off this public forum if you like.

Thanks

jack

You should be in the PPC PowerBook & iBook forum.

Edit: Lombard is a G3, and 8.0 or up is best for G3s, though earlier ones might run OS 7.6. So, no.

Edit 2: 8.1 might run.

The Lombard requires 8.6, but you might get 8.5 to run with some work (and possibly the Mac OS ROM file from 8.6).

As far as I know, 8.0/8.1 will not work. Nor will any version of System 7.
