I suspected the PS, as I could not get it to run a 4" computer fan when I touched the leads to the contacts on the PS-to-Cube plug.
I arrived back from a short holiday today and decided to do a little searching re. the Cube, whereupon I came across some advice to warm one of the corners of the power supply up with a hairdryer. At first sight, that sounded a little like "healing through crystals," what I call "Californian" Celtic Christianity, and similar voodoo, but there was a sizable thread about it on CubeOwner.com, so what the heck, I thought I'd give it a try.
Well, believe it or not, it worked. Not having a functional hairdryer, I used one of those little cube-like space heaters with a fan, which seems a more appropriate solution anyway. After about two minutes of gentle warming, the Cube sprang to life.
Apparently there is a known failure of a cold solder joint (from a capacitor) in the thing, so the theory is that even a little heat is enough to restore contact.
As I sit here, it is still working, though the PS has cooled.
I will obviously want to take the PS apart and fix it properly, but this has to be one of the oddest tidbits yet for me. Isn't the web wonderful (sometimes)?
