| Futura II LX 24-Bit video card, Apple Hub, Aironet 4800... |

I just came out of WeirdStuff today with a load of goodies for $13. I found what appears to be a new E-Machines Futura II LX video card. This is a nice one, 24-bit accelerated. Apparently I can get an Ethernet Card or a DSP card for it. Would love to find the ethernet. That'd save me a Nubus slot.
Also found an Apple Network Hub. It's missing the power adapter, but I bet I could find a compatible one.
Also snagged a new Aironet 4800 802.11b wireless card. Works with Mac OS 9. I'd take it out of the PCI riser and stick it in the Airport slot, but Apple's supplied antenna doesn't fit the card.
Last but not least, a JetDirect card with AppleTalk for my Color LaserJet 5. 🙂 (Still looking for a PostScript SIMM for it. 🙁 )

I can't get the Aironet 4800 to work. I installed the Cisco 350 software and it's not able to turn on the radio. 🙁 Oh well. It was only $3.

I just snagged a ThinNet version of the daughtercard . . . 😉

They've cleaned out the back area recently and put in some new stuff. It was on the most right end of the first shelf right when you go into the back area. I noticed the Futura logo because I have the low-end 8-bit version.

"macmetex" on Ebay had the Futura II ethernet daughter cards. I don't know if he still has any. I think I got the last of the 10bt ones he had, but he still had some thinnet (coax) cards when I last checked. He also had some Futura II SX cards in the box, but I already had one of those.
My experience with the Futura II card and the ethernet daughter card is that the machine will lock up when Open Transport extensions load. If you use Classic Networking, it works great, but with Open Transport it locks up the machine.

Went to Weird Stuff again. Got 3 LC Ethernet adapters ($3 each), a 400N JetDirect Card ($7), and I lucked out with a brand new rear paper feed tray for Color LaserJet 5 for $15. Super score! Those things are expensive as hell to buy used online.

Nice. I wish there was a place around here like that. The thing is, with U.T. in town, there probably is a ton of used Mac equipment in the city. I suspect it all ends up at Goodwill who never put any older stuff out. They seem to just recycle anything more than a couple of years old. Bastards.

This late in the game you have to either have a contract to recycle for some really high caliber places that still use old gear if you want stuff like minicomputers and mainframes. For the smaller stuff like Apple II's and other early home computers you'll be up against the much larger corporate recyclers who pay to get your stuff and have contracts with smaller recycling centers.
I myself work in the E-waste business and it's a dog-eat-dog world out there.

Not sure how bad metal recycling is but I have seen some pretty nasty smear ad's for other recyclers.
