Complete 512K with external floppy and carry case!
Posted by: krye on 2011-06-12 18:44:30
I scored an amazing deal on eBay. A complete 512K with external floppy and a case for only $66 bucks!

I've had my eye on eBay for a while and the M0130s usually go for about $100 bucks. So this is like getting the Mac for free. And then some. Not to mention that the cases usually go for around $75-100 bucks.

Everything works, even the internal floppy drive. The past 3 machines that I've bought all have had locked up 400K floppy drives. (Which I still need to repair). So this was nice to see a machine is such good shape for such a cheap price. Not to mention that there is little yellowing too.

It still needs to be cleaned, and a short dip in some peroxide/oxy wouldn't hurt. But overall, it's a very nice looking machine.

The case is kinda grubby and could use some freshening up. I wonder if a spin in the washing machine would ruin it?

It was also nice to see an original Apple power cord. You don't always get one of those!

Overall, very pleased with this machine. And it'll look very nice between my 128K and my Mac Plus!

Is that case actually yellowed? Early Macs were beige in colour, not platinum (grey), a change that was made half way through the life of the Mac Plus. Looks like a pretty clean example to me.

Hi,

What is the second one in the background ?

Posted by: Strimkind on 2011-06-13 19:09:09
Its a duel floppy SE.

Yup, dual floppy SE in the background. However, the bottom drive was swapped out for a 40M hdd. And those are more 512K parts on the floor.

Nice clean setup, bargain for $66.

M0130's are cool too.

I picked up 2 gallons of volume 20 peroxide. I'll give the Mac a quick dip in some oxy/peroxide this weekend and see how it comes out.

There's also a 128k that I'm restoring that's coming out really nice. I just have to do the keyboard and mouse. I'll post pictures later.

Neat website by the way, want to get around to doing something like that myself. Just spent a couple of hours looking through yours :O

Looking forward to pics of the 128k resto, your Macs have come up great and love the documented procedures. Shame the peroxide mix removed the silver from inside the SE, didn't expect that!

Cool. Thanks. Glad you liked it. I always get a kick when I find out someone checked it out.

WOW, congrats...your 512 looks to be in better shape than mine, yellowing-wise, for sure. And dang, wish I had that external floppy, too.

I used to have several of those OG Apple logo power cords, but I think I tossed em in the last move (along with far too much other cool "junk" my wife said I didn't need to keep) :-x

Krye linked up his "Mac Plus resto" in the Compacts sub-forum. Loads of pictures and loads of projects. Was hooked at work the other day!

Thanks for the props guys.

I finished cleaning up a 128K and some external drives yesterday. I should have some cool pics up soon.

It's always great to find a Mac in that condition. Particularly with those accessories. Plus, you can't beat that price. 😀

I finally got the chance to clean up the 512K. What a difference! This thing was filthy.

Before:

After:

Before:

If you look closely to where the arrow is pointing, you can see a light colored circle. There must have been a sticker there. You can definitely see that the rest of the case is slightly yellowed.

After:

After 2 hours in some Oxy/peroxide, the yellowing was removed. The light colored circle is no longer visible.

Before:

Filthy! And the owner had something taped on the top. Long enough for a square patch to be a little lighter than the rest of the case.

After:

It looks awesome next to my 128K. I havn't buttoned it up yet since I still have some work to do on the floppy dirve. Other than that, it's all done and ready for display. The 800K drive is just there for the shot. I have another 400K drive coming in the mail this week. Another awesome eBay score for only $15 bucks. Oooh, I should post that in Conquests!
