ANS500 (alas, not mine)

Here's something you don't see every day: the unboxing of an Apple Network Server 500 over in one of the Apple sets on Flickr, at http://www.flickr.com/photos/the_krest/3070546447/in/pool-982814@N21/

It's always cool to see old hardware unboxed.

Yeah, that is truly amazing... Shame it's not an ANS 700 otherwise I'd be hassling you for the second power supply for my ANS 500 🙁

I've got a brand new "emergency spare" last gen '09 Xserve in my store room here. Who knows, in 10 years time maybe it'll never have been opened either but I doubt it!

Once in a lifetime for sure.

Hey, man, my production ANS 500 is pristine. No yellowing. Admittedly the spare 700 has taken a bit of thrashing.

Yeah, my guess is that most ANS's would probably be Platinum or near-Platinum purely because they spent the bulk of their life in a datacentre/server room, and then later on in a store room with limited or no sunlight. Still, its always beautiful to see it.

All three of mine have varying states of yellowing on them. They seem to survive wet weather okay but they sure don't like the sun.

LCGuy is right, most ANS's would have had a fairly quiet life, well looked after while in use then straight into the back room once they're replaced.

I found mine wrapped up on a pallet in the kitchen at our office, with a microwave on top of it!!! I was allowed to take it, so long as I found something else to put the microwave on haha.
