| HD20 |
Posted by: techknight on 2011-05-19 18:20:11 Went to the dayton hamvention flea market and seen macs galore. shelves of compacts, all 10 or 15 dollars each. I picked the only one that said HyperDrive 20 on it.
And they had an HD20, so i picked that up for $15. and going back to pick up the $10 dollar serial HDD. dunno what it is, but its off-brand.
About the HD20. Not sure how to test it. never had one. I fired it up, the drive spun, it started seeking and after that got done, the front LED stopped flashing, and the drive stayed running.
But the SE/30 wont see it as is. any ideas?

Posted by: Dennis Nedry on 2011-05-19 21:20:26 I'm not totally certain that an HD20 will work with an SE/30, and actually I doubt it. There are some Macs that have floppy ports that will not work with the HD20, that I am sure of. You may need to return to this place and get a Mac Plus!

Posted by: mcdermd on 2011-05-19 21:23:29 Oh, man. My brother is there now - demoing his Mac-based SDR "Heterodyne". I told him to be on the lookout for some Mac parts for me. Sounds hopeful.
Is your HD 20 an MFS floppy port model or the HD 20 SC SCSI model?

Posted by: Dennis Nedry on 2011-05-19 21:26:02 Aha!
Apple officially dropped support for the HD 20 with System 6 as well as omitting the necessary ROM code beginning with the Macintosh SE/30. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Disk_20

Posted by: techknight on 2011-05-20 17:35:04 Mac parts were everywhere.
I am going there tomorrow to catch the last bit of whats left/sales.
And its an HD20 floppy port model, Believe me, i know what an HD20 is ;-)
if i get a bunch of whats left cheap, ill toss it up here for free/sale depending on what it is. Share the wealth to people that cant go to hamvention.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2011-05-20 21:19:04 If you see any 400k floppy drives or telephone cord style original keyboards for cheap, I know someone who'll buy em 😉

Posted by: techknight on 2011-05-21 17:34:31 I went back today, and got 2 external 400K floppy drives, cords are hacked off. So its only good for the housing/mechanism.
and i picked up the last 2 HDDs, one is a serial style HDD, and the other one is a 2GB apple external SCSI.
Then shortly afterwords, someone came in behind me and bought the ENTIRE rack of compact macs. i mean the WHOLE TIERED SHELVED RACK of them.
Hopefully it was a fellow 68Ker, or someone for a 68Ker, but my feeling its a scrapper.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2011-05-22 23:34:27 Aw, crap. My brother passed on those 400k drive because of the cords. All I need are the mechanisms 🙁
Are you putting them to use or would you look to sell/trade them? They were the primary thing I sent him looking for.

Posted by: techknight on 2011-05-23 18:14:36 was your brother the one that got the whole rack of compact macs?
|
Posted by: mcdermd on 2011-05-23 22:25:13 No, he was the one demoing the HPSDR "Heterodyne" for Mac OS X. He's the one who codes it.
