Dual 1.8 G5 Issues
Posted by: CompactMacLover on 2011-05-03 20:55:59
I started messing with the Dual 1.8 G5 tonight, I power it up with good ram in it, no video card and I get a steady blink on the Power LED and a red led on in front of the upper ram slots.. Any ideas on this one

A steady blinking front LED is supposed to be a sign that the G5 doesn't see any RAM. The RAM slots are numbered, it should have identical RAM in like numbered RAM slots. If I remember correctly, the upper RAM slots don't have the same number.

The RAM must be paired, upper and lower. Work your way from inside to outside. Be sure the RAM is DDR 400 (PC3200) unbuffered.

This may be useful to you:

• 1 Flash: No RAM is installed or detected.

• 2 Flashes: Incompatible RAM types are installed.

• 3 Flashes: No RAM banks passed memory testing.

• 4 Flashes: No good boot images are detected in the boot ROM (and/or there is a bad sys config block).

• 5 Flashes: The processor is not usable.

All i get is a steady blinking LED. I guess I can get some ram for it and try it. Will it also error out if no video card is installed

IIRC, they boot without a video card and (if enabled) you can connect to them via VNC.
