Best way to install 7.5.3?
Posted by: John Hokanson Jr. on 2011-04-25 23:59:34
I know about the 19 disk images for 7.5.3, but is there a way to reformat my PB520 HD, move them over via ethernet, and then install clean?

The only way I can think of is to use the 7.5 Network Install Disk (floppy) and make sure it has all the resources to file-share via AppleTalk over Ethernet. Just boot off the floppy, connect via AppleTalk to your Indigo iMac (make sure that one is temporarily set up for AppleTalk via Ethernet as well), from there you can open up the 7.5.3 installer that's stored on the Indigo's HDD and clean install to the PowerBook. You'll need an AAUI to Ethernet adapter for Cat 5 network connections. If you don't, then you'll need the AsanteTalk Ethernet to LocalTalk Bridge. Asante still sells them for $78 USD luckily.

http://macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-legacy-software-recovery-cd]Download this and burn it to a CD-R.

That has disk images in 1440k images that you can copy the files over manually instead of burning it with Disk Copy if you have a machine that can't do that. As in my case, the CD Install takes 48MB or so, and I have a 40MB HDD. :disapprove:
