| Note: CRT Swap |
Posted by: techknight on 2011-02-26 11:06:17 Oh, i forgot to mention, A while back i swapped out a CRT from a 52XX/53XX/54XX machine, into a G3 AIO.
My G3 AIO had a weak green gun, and it was burned in pretty badly, while the 5200/75 had a perfect CRT, but bad flyback.
So i swapped the CRTs without too much hassle, and it worked. The curvature of the CRT is extremely close, not exact, but close enough not to notice any difference.
Now also keep in mind, there are some models within the 52/53/54 series that has a slightly smaller CRT, and the curvature is different. My 5260/100 is this way. they will NOT work. just keep this in mind.
I figure i would let you know, just in case you are tempted to do something of the like.

Posted by: tmtomh on 2011-02-26 11:38:31 Good to know! I would've thought the 5200 and 5300 series would've had shadow mask CRTs, and the AIO would have a Trinitron. Nice to know that actual tubes can be swapped in some cases.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2011-03-09 13:35:49 From memory the last AIO to have a Trinitron was the LC575 - all the PowerPC AIOs had shadow mask CRTs.

all the PowerPC AIOs had shadow mask CRTs. I thought the 5200-series Macs had Trinitron monitors as well.

Posted by: techknight on 2011-03-18 20:23:33 nope. none of the ones i have seen personally did. All been standard old CRTs. Trinitrons will only swap out for Trinitrons, because of the H-stat electrode, among other things.

nope. none of the ones i have seen personally did. All been standard old CRTs. So who manufactured the monitors for the 5xxx AIOs? The monitor in my 5215CD has the picture quality of a Trinitron; I personally doubt it's a shadow mask.

Posted by: tmtomh on 2011-03-19 13:58:34 @Concorde1993 - you can easily tell if it's a Trinitron or not. If the CRT face is curved as you move from top to bottom and side to side, it's a shadow mask. However, if it's curved only from side to side, but is flat top to bottom, then it's a Trinitron.
There are other distinguishing signs too (only Trinitrons have a thin wire running horizontally behind the screen about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom - it's faintly visible if you have a totally white desktop image on the screen).
