| Mac os 6.0.7 for powerbook 140/170 |
Posted by: jimbauwens on 2011-02-04 10:22:44 Quite some time ago I got a powerbook 140, with a dead hardrive. I managed to get it working again by putting the harddrive in a fridge. This was however temporally, after a couple of days it stopped working. xx(
The only way to boot a system was with a floppy, but System 7 takes so much space in that you can't include any program.
So I went searching and found that there was a Japanese version of Mac Os 6.07 (mac os 6 is so much smaller) that ran on the powerbook 140 and 170.
The only problem was that it was in japanese. But I spend some time with mini vmac and resedit, and successfully translated the system English.
I had enough space to include a couple of games, and it ran perfect on my powerbook (and still does).
Today I found the image again, and was wondering if someone of you might be interested in it. 🙂

Posted by: mx-v on 2011-02-04 18:32:34 Well, it doesn't boot a 165. 🙁
It does boot a Classic tho, for what it's worth. (proves my floppy is good)
Thanks anyway, it's nice from you to share. 🙂

Posted by: beachycove on 2011-02-05 14:27:25 Before I go a-downloading, does this version have the Resedit hack already done, or is it the original Japanese language software?
|
Posted by: jimbauwens on 2011-02-05 14:50:11 It's the tweaked version, all the work is done.

Posted by: beachycove on 2011-02-05 16:54:58 You are a gentleman!

Posted by: basalgangster on 2011-02-05 18:37:45 Worked like a charm in my PB170. Very cool that you left the Japanese Welcome to Macintosh message in place. I guess I knew it couldn't work in my PB180, but I had to try. No luck. Thanks much for that.

Posted by: jimbauwens on 2011-02-06 02:19:05 I'm very happy that it works for you 🙂

Posted by: closeddoors1559 on 2011-02-06 03:58:12 I'd also like to try it.
|
Posted by: beachycove on 2011-02-06 08:57:25 Actually, I couldn't get it to work on a PB170. Procedure was:
d/l in OSX.4 -> .dsk file not recognized, and gave up.
d/l in OS9, forced file recognition in Stuffit Expander -> disk image, from which I made floppy via DiskCopy. All seemed well.
However, the PB170 will not boot from the floppy. Have I missed something?

Posted by: jimbauwens on 2011-02-06 10:11:28 You're floppy must be a 1,4 mb one, not smaller. Maybe this is your problem?
