Recovering old AOL password (OS 8, 9?)
Posted by: LimeiBook86 on 2011-01-26 08:08:38
Hi everyone,

Okay so this is an odd request... and I'm not even sure if it's possible but. We used to have AOL ages ago, and I like my other family members had an account. Years after we stopped the service AOL now allows users to use their old name and email for free.

The problem is my username was created at least 10 years ago and I can't even begin to remember the password. However I think it may auto-login via one of my old Macs. I can't confirm this, I haven't tried to do it in ages (and I'm not even sure if the password is remembered on the Mac), but I was thinking maybe it was saved somewhere on the machine? I know there were a lot of "database" or "maindatabase" files under the bloated AOL program folder. I thought maybe one of the files could have the password saved in there... or not... 😛

Again this is a silly request, just wondering if anyone else has had any success recovering such passwords. I went through AOL's "recover password" thing but it just sends an email to the "backup" email address, which I don't believe was ever setup. RedEdit popped into my mind, but that probably wouldn't help I suppose.

Thanks! 🙂
