475 - PSU loading, recase?

Thanks to Scott's recent garage sale, I finally have an LC. It's cool how much Mac they squeezed on to those little chips. I already have a few extras in mind here: full 040 is on the way, and I have an LC ][e PDS card here.

Thing is that I am worried about overloading the PSU. With the above two things, and seeing that the ][ drives are bus powered, and maybe hang a port-powered MIDI interface or two off the back...

Anybody have any stories for or against the reliability of these things? Thinking of maybe recasing it in a rack with a more robust PSU and build in the ][ drives, but of course this turns it into a bit of a project. Same thing happening with my Atari Mega2 and it has been a pile of parts for three years while I try to figure out how to finish it. What do do?

The PSU is not known for failing, and thus I would not worry unduly about it.

If you do have concerns, bide your time and pick up a spare locally when the opportunity arises. LCs and LC parts are plentiful (heck, I could sell you several), and even shipping for one of those little PSUs, or indeed the whole machine, would be cheap.

The LC475 is a great little machine. You will, however, need to deal with more heat in the case with the full 040 installed. A heatsink or an inverted casefan (drawing air up rather than pushing air out) might be worth experimenting with in this connection.

If you're worried about the PSU, you could replace all the capacitors inside it with new ones.
