Strange ADB operation - Powerbook 1400c
Posted by: LC_575 on 2011-01-04 16:01:08
I go to plug in my Apple Keyboard into my Powerbook, along with a mouse, using an S-video cable. The second I plug in, a low static-like string of pops eminate from the Powerbook's speaker. I quickly remove the cable. Powerbook refuses to boot, do a PRAM reset, and all is well. ADB even still works.

What happened?

Is the Powerbook running when you're doing this (as you mentioned popping from speakers)? I'm pretty sure it's not recommended to plug ADB devices in or out when the Mac is powered up.

Of course not. It was shut down but charging.

Have you previously (or since) used the same cable and keyboard on another machine?

My first guess would be the cable - S-video cables aren't as well insulated as ADB cables. Perhaps there's a short in the cable and/or its connector?
