| WGS 9150 |
Posted by: stevep on 2010-12-29 13:16:01 I acquired a Workgroup Server 9150 today 🙂 An ad on Kijiji offered one for sale, so a 4 hour round trip, a slightly lighter wallet and it's home now.
I believe its the 80 MHz version.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-12-29 14:42:44 Very nice, one of the few systems I still want for my collection. Does it have the 5 drive tray installed?
|
Posted by: stevep on 2010-12-29 15:41:26 I think it has the 5 drive tray; at least the part holding the one drive has labels A - E. Here's a close up picture of this:

A couple more pictures are here showing the inside and front panel, before someone says "pictures or it didn't happen"!!

Posted by: Strimkind on 2010-12-29 15:52:26 I'd love to get my hands on one of those!
Very nice conquest!

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-12-29 15:53:40 Thats it, nice system. What cards are installed?
|
Posted by: stevep on 2010-12-29 16:13:01 One is a video card, and the other one I am not sure. It has some kind of connector that is accessed through the rear of the computer but I have no idea what connects to it.
|
Posted by: stevep on 2010-12-29 17:08:30 I pulled the mystery card to see what it is. It's a ECI card (expansion chassis interface) - something to do with Pro-Tools which is studio (audio) related. Makes sense as the guy I got it from used it for this type of work.
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-12-29 17:18:43 The interface card to the Nubus expansion box then? Don't lose that card might come in useful someday.
|
Posted by: ClassicHasClass on 2010-12-29 19:25:45 Nice land! Are you going to upgrade it at all additionally?
|
Posted by: Dennis Nedry on 2010-12-29 21:47:54 Make sure to ask the guy if he has the expansion box! Don't be shy!
|
Posted by: LC_575 on 2010-12-30 14:31:17 That is one of the coolest Macs EVER. It's a perfect merger of the expandability of the Quadra 950 and PowerPC technology.
|
Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2010-12-30 16:03:34 I still need to get a WGS95/Q950 to put my WGS PDS card in. It works fine in the Centris 650, but I can't put the lid on...
|
Posted by: Bunsen on 2010-12-31 03:30:56 Sweet.
a 4 hour round trip Hence the bus avatar? 😛
It's a ECI card (expansion chassis interface) Sweeeeet! The only thing that could possibly make a 9150 better - eleven more Nubus slots!

Hence the bus avatar? 😛 The bus avatar is actually my own bus 🙂 That is my other hobby.... maybe I should post a YouTube video of it in action!
Sweeeeet! The only thing that could possibly make a 9150 better - eleven more Nubus slots! I will have to contact the guy I got the WGS from and see if he has any other part for that ECI as Dennis suggested.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2010-12-31 09:56:10 8-o FABULOUS Trash 80! I cut my computer teeth in an Adult Ed Class at the local middle school learning to program in basic on the previous model w/two vertically mounted 8" Floppies!
Immense collection and an enviable workspace, comrade, my hat's off to you! :approve:
|
Posted by: Temetka on 2011-01-03 01:59:48 Forget the 9150.
Did you guys see this?!?. Man I learned to program on those! Clunky as hell, but still very cool.
The fact that you not only own one of them, but also have the requisite boxes and RAM upgrades for it grant you +50 internets. I remember reading over various computer mags back in the day (Omni comes to mind) and looking over some of the addons for those machines. My frozen admin's heart warms a tiny bit recollecting those nascent days of drooling over uber cool hardware and not being able to afford any of it. Oh wait, I still do that now. 😎

Posted by: bizzle on 2011-01-04 14:24:11 Don't care too much about a WGS but nice work area. I am jealous.
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2011-01-04 14:38:37 Not sure why, but the boxy 900/950/9150 case design along with the II/IIx/IIfx case are my favorite to look at. They are boxy but different. The 20th Aniversary mac is the one I hate the most visually. The SE and SE/30 are great looking little compacts, but I hate the G3 Imacs.
To be honest I miss the beige boxes in general especially the massive heavy steel server cases of the early to mid 1990's you can sit on (200+ Lbs person). Todays cases are flimsy aluminum with a bad paintjob.
