| PB 1400c: IDE to CompactFlash convertor? |
Posted by: LC_575 on 2010-12-23 23:29:04 Is such an item available? I'd like to make myself a silent PowerBook by doing away with the hard drive.
Alternatively, are there similar convertors for SD cards?

Posted by: CJ_Miller on 2010-12-24 00:17:07 Yes, there are indeed cheap and plentiful adaptors for these media. Also you can find IDE form factor solid state drives. Do a web search and you should find a glut of them.
Too bad that there's not much out there for flash SCSI...

The 1400 will boot from it no problem... even w/o a hdd installed. actually the wallstreet does also, but none after that that I am aware of.
One of the reasons debian is kinda OK on the 1400 [wallstreet]... can put it on a flash drive or the hdd and boot MKLinux from the other..

Posted by: ClassicHasClass on 2010-12-27 20:40:54 My main concern is write cycles on the CF, since the 1400 is pretty much condemned to use some sort of virtual memory, which is why I never did this on my own 1400. RAM Doubler with memory compression helps a bit here over Apple VM, and write cycles are getting higher and higher, but I'm still leery.
