| 8500/9500 CPU card in a 7500? Looking at upgrades... |
Posted by: protocol7 on 2010-12-14 14:03:06 I'm planning to get a 604 card for my 7500 and was wondering if the 7500/8500/9500 can all use each other's CPU daughtercards. I specifically want a 604, not 604e, so I think 150Mhz is as high as I can go. So would the card from a 8500/150 or 9500/150 do the trick?
I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of places about shipping costs etc, but until then here's a list of the parts I need to get for my 7500. If anyone has all or most of them (so I only have one shipping charge) then let me know what you would want for them with shipping to Ireland. I'm trying to keep costs down as much as possible (well, isn't everyone).
High priority
604 CPU @ 150Mhz
AppleCD 600i or 1200i SCSI CDROM
2x1MB VRAM chips
Lower priority
1 Blank PCI cover
1 Support Arm (922-1730)

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-12-14 14:48:37 You should be able to do a 604e/200 in a 7500, the 604EV (250/300/350) only work in a 8600/9600.
You might be able to find a cheap G3 card for the 7500 locally.

Posted by: protocol7 on 2010-12-14 14:57:58 I already have a G3 card in it. I want the 604 specifically for some software that won't work with a 604e. So would the 8500/9500 cards work OK?
BTW there's really no such thing as "picking up locally" over here. Especially for anything pre-G3. It all has to come from abroad.

1 Blank PCI cover If you're talking about the metal piece that goes in the back of the case when a PCI slot is not in use, Macs use the exact same ones as PCs - you should have no trouble at all getting one, and I certainly wouldn't pay for it.

I have a dozen or more PC ones in a box and found a flat one that was almost identical to the ones in the 7500. I wasn't really expecting to pay for one. Was figuring that if I was getting the other parts off someone and they had one, they'd just throw it in. In any case I've got most of the parts winging their way to me. Apart from the support arm but that's not really all that vital.
