So whats a good bootable DVDRW for a G4?

Anybody have a preference for "newer" DVD+/-RW drives for G4 towers?

Any of them bootable?

I ordered a SAMSUNG SH-S222A from Newegg hoping it works on a G4 Quicksilver, if not it will go into a PC.

I have never had an issue booting new world towers off any modern optical drive when attached to the onboard PATA. Though, I have not tried any on my SATA card yet.

I would say to get whatever you want and try it. Well, perhaps not bluray.. never heard of someone trying to connect one to a PPC Mac.. not that they support bluray anyway. 😛

I stick with the Pioneer drives - aka "superdrives", I have had excellent luck with them for everything, and they are often recognized as Apple drives in OS 9. It is only in classicland that booting off of 3rd party drives might be an issue.

I did get that samsung, no issues on the Quicksilver playing DVD's or burning media. For $21 shipped it was a great deal (Newegg).
