do you need to zero the drive before installation of mac os/bootx and linux on the old world mac? Some of the instructions say so!

I don't think I've ever zeroed mine. Fresh initialization and FS creation is all I remember doing.

Nope, I have installed YDL / Debian/ and LinuxPPC and never done a zeroing of the HD
