Repairing G4 Cube speakers
Posted by: oneboyarmy on 2010-10-12 18:46:07
Some time near the end of last year, my kitten got her little claws on one of my Cube's speakers and did a real number on it. It still works, but it sounds a bit bad and it looks terrible. I have a spare set of regular Apple Pro speakers at my disposal. Now, I haven't taken them apart to look, but is it possible that I could take the innards of the Cube speakers and replace them with the standalone Pro speakers?

Anybody have any thoughts? :?:

They should be identical.

The drivers in the G4 "Pro" speakers are the same as the Cube's. Apple used 2 manufacturers, but the specs are the same. There may be differences in paint color (white or silver) and surround color (dark or light grey) but they sound the same - or at least they did when new.

Everything you could ever want to know about those ball speakers, the iSub, and various other HK speakers for/in Macs, is either in or linked from this thread.
