Show me how Mac OS 8/9 looks in 16 color mode
Posted by: returningmacuser on 2010-09-07 16:17:08
Exactly what it says on the tin.

I'm just curious about what it actually looks like. I know that OS 8/9 has graphics for Black & White mode, and I've seen pictures of that, but I know OS 8 was also compatible with Macs that could use 16 color mode. Maybe someone could give me a screenshot of SoftMac or their 68k computer running OS 8 so I could see it?

Looks unfinished.

Aside from the desktop picture, all the UI elements look fine.

most of the UI elements are less than a handful of colors 😉

Well yes... my point was that the "unfinished" look isn't really the fault of the GUI.

IMO its pretty darn good in 16 colors, I ran my 8500 in insane resolutions in 16 colors for a little bit, you want some crap try windows (even as early as 3.11) in 16 colors, its more like 6 colors and dithering hit the wall full speed so they did not bother

though if you like neon red blue yellow and 3 gray vomit then windows in 16 colors would be for you

It doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would. Windows 16 colors was def. far worse.
