My old HP OS 9/OS X printer is not very reliable these days and there are really no new printers on the market these days ( or that I have been able to find ) that provide OS 9 compatibility. Purchasing a used printer is tempting but i have never had luck with eBay/paypal purchases and have been stung badly.

Would this gizmo work

to allow me to make use of for example an Apple printer ( yes, the printer still works with my LC520 and Performa ) or a Mark of the Unicorn midi interface with my iMac G3 running just OS 9 ?

That's a PC-style serial port. If you're using a Mac printer you'll want a USA-28X.

There were OS 9 drivers for the Brother HL-2040 that I installed on someones OS 9 system last year. It might be worth checking to see if it'll work with the currant HL-2140.
