Cd rom drive and hard drive for performa 6116
Posted by: Dimitris1980 on 2010-08-14 00:20:02
Do you know any good stores that sell cd rom and hard drives for performa 6116? I am looking a cd drive at least 24x cd and a hard drive (internal or external) at least 20gb.

No-one sells them new. I can suggest macmetex and olde-mac-milt on ebay.

Also, you'll have trouble finding a 24x SCSI 50 pin CD, IIRC, and a 50 pin SCSI 20GB hard drive. Perhaps aim a little slower and smaller 🙂

Do you have any suggestion ? 🙂

Late model 5500, 6500, 8600, and 9600 Macs shipped with 24x SCSI CD-ROM drives, so they do exist. These are the non-G3 Macs with CPU speeds of 250MHz or greater. They are still really scarce, though.

Yeah, I actually have two such drives - one in my 5260, the other in an external enclosure. They're Apple ROM'd, fast, and basically awesome. Not exactly easy to find though...I was just very very lucky. Anything between 2x and 8x should be fairly plentiful though 🙂

4x and 8x Apple ROM CD players were made in the millions, but they are getting harder to find unless you gut an old system.
