CPU and Cache Speed Software
Posted by: Temetka on 2010-08-12 17:09:38
I've been using my Beige G3MT more and more these last few weeks and I have come to realize that I love this machine to death. However I do require some software to help me figure out what best to tweak.

I am looking for something along the lines of Guage Pro, Metronome, Powerlogix G3/G4 cache profiler.

I need to be able to see what bus speed I am at, what the CPU is actually running at (400MHz in the case of this computer), the cache speed, and bus speed ratios.

It would appear that the further the world moves away from OS 9, the harder it is to find software for it, which I can understand because very little software is being developed for this operating system still. I do find it kind of odd though that the older software appears to be scrubbed from the 'Net except for wonderful havens such as Macintosh garden and the like.

This post proudly brought to you by my BeigeG3MT running MacOS 9.0 and Clasilla. 😎

You're probably looking for stuff like:

http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/processors.cfm

Right?

Yes that is what I am looking ofr. However, the download.com link doen't work and OWC (as far as I can tell) does not have the software available for download.

Here we are:

SonnetTech Metronome v3.0 (Found link at VersionTracker.com)

Scroll down to "Utilities" for GaugePro v1.1. 😉

Well I was able to track down a copy of Gauge Pro from NewerTech and it does exatcly what I need.

Now I am looking for a little applet that will show processor usage and tasks. Kind of like the activity monitor for OS X but a version for OS 9 of course.

Thanks.

Come to find out it was there all along. I've been using Classilla in OS 9 and it comes pre-bundled with NoScript which on my other machines tells me about scripts that are blocked and if I want to allow them. In this version I have to open the noscript preferences and spcifially tell it that yes I do want to be able to have this website run scripts on my computer. /facepalm
