| Unidentifiable NuBus Card |
Posted by: jpolster2009 on 2010-08-12 08:27:27 Ok, I don't have a digital camera right now, but I'll do my best. I got a Mac IIfx. In it were what I thought were two video cards. But, One of the cards has a fairly large AMD chip on it, almost looks like a 486 processor or something. It also has a bunch of RAM chips on it. It does have a monitor port at the end of it, could this possibly be a PC compatibility card? If not, what is it? And why the AMD chip?

Posted by: trag on 2010-08-12 10:18:20 Does the "monitor port" have little hooks on either side of it? It could be network card with an AUI port. The AUI port used the same DB-15 connector that Apple used for monitors, but typically it had a couple of little hooks to either side, instead of the normal screw holes.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-08-12 13:18:21 Apple 8.24 GC is a good card for an 030 mac, people buy them but they are not super rare.

whats a raster card Just a video card. Old terminology.

Posted by: Nathan on 2010-08-20 14:30:12 The raster part probably refers to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raster_graphics, which is a way of drawing stuff on a screen. Don't why they'd need to say that, I think raster is the way things work right now? Maybe that was a change or improvement at the time or maybe they simply wanted everyone to know that it was a video card?

Posted by: LCGuy on 2010-08-20 15:59:50 I haven't read a new Apple Service manual in years, but I know the old ones used to refer to the image on the display as a raster.
