| Graphite iMac - $25? |
Posted by: jkoci on 2010-08-12 07:51:47 I have an opportunity to pickup a graphite iMac locally. The asking price is $25. All the owner knows about it is that it works. The image he posted shows an Apple pro keyboard with it. I know the graphite model ranged from 400 to 700mhz. I may go check it out. Did the 400mhz model come with a pro keyboard originally? If it didn't it may be at least a 500mhz model. Sad to say but is it worth $25? I may get it to run OS9 stuff. Thanks.

Posted by: protocol7 on 2010-08-12 08:37:20 I'd say it's worth that but it depends on what use you think you'd get out of it. I use my 500Mhz one for OS9 stuff, some games and general messing around. The G3 iMacs are quite nice and the speakers are decent.

I've read that with enough memory, the early versions of Mac OS X work well too. For a 400MHz machine that works, $25 is probably a little below average. If you want it or a have a use for it, take it while it's available.

I think some of these later iMacs may be among the trickier things to maintain in good working order. Think the main problem is they run too hot. DVD-equipped machines would be a bonus.

Posted by: Strimkind on 2010-08-12 17:23:37 $25 is not bad at all if it is in good working order. At times you can find them free, however they can be in various states. A big thing is to turn it and listen for bits flying around inside. I have run into some that have been mistreated and the CRT housing was broken. Obviously that machine did not work.
Bottom line: Go have a look. A 400mhz is fine on the internet but if its a 700mhz you have a hard to find model (I've never found one anyways).
