| Mac IIfx won't turn off |

Bought a perfectly clean, inside and out, IIFX from a resale shop. Checked the board thoroughly for an hour, did not find a single drop of cap leakage, and none are bulging. It turns on from the keyboard perfectly every time, but when you go to special > shutdown, it goes to the screen saying its safe to turn it off. It will not shut down by itself. Before I spend another 30 to 50 dollars on a power supply, does anyone have any ideas? Should i re-install system software? Should I replace the Pram battery, it does hold time when you turn it off and unplug it. in fact it had the correct time when i purchased it. Any ideas? I would like to restore this to perfect order for my museum

I'd replace/test the PRAM batteries first, and check the power switch at the back of the case

I'm trying to search out a place to find pram batts locally. would radio shack have them? I hate waiting for shipping

You can get Pram batteries at Radio Shack but you'll pay $12 - $14 for one. You can get 4 from Mike Richardson over on ppcmla.org for less than that.

Thought I would come back and post the solution in case anyone else has this issue. I let it sit turned on for about an hour, and it behaved normally after that. it seems it only does this when it has been unplugged for a wjote

You might want to search the forum, this sounds very similar to another issue that someone else had which was discussed sometime in the last 4 months or so. If I remember correctly it turned out to be a power supply issue.

IIRC, that "It is now safe to turn off your Macintosh" issue is a system install issue. You probably have the wrong enabler or some such in the system folder. A clean install for the IIfx would likely take care of it. I think I had this problem with my IIci for a while back in '95.
