| m68040 optimized 5.1 RC3 sets available |
Posted by: johnklos on 2010-07-20 15:15:46 NetBSD 5.1 RC3 binaries from 20-July-2010 sources compiled with optimizations for m68040 systems are available here:
ftp://ftp.mac68k.org/pub/NetBSD/5.1_RC3/mac68k-m68040/
You can also fetch them here:
http://www.mac68k.org/NetBSD/5.1_RC3_m68040/
These sets are being tested (the server which is hosting the files is running them), but feedback would be most welcome if you give these a try. X sets are included, too.
Softfloat (for LC040s with broken FPU trap handling) compiled sets are coming soon.

Posted by: johnklos on 2010-07-20 18:07:58 Softfloat sets are available here:
ftp://ftp.mac68k.org/pub/NetBSD/5.1_RC3/mac68k-softfloat/
http://www.mac68k.org/NetBSD/5.1_RC3_softfloat/
These are compiled with m68040 optimizations but with no FPU instructions so that they will run fine on LC040s with broken FPUs.
Please leave feedback if you try these out.

Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2010-07-21 07:15:17 Do you know of any 68k-specific improvements in 5.1?
(Not that I currently have any 68k boxen running NB, :'( , but thought I'd ask anyway.)

Posted by: johnklos on 2010-07-21 13:03:48 Not that I know of. There are various small fixes and some code generation issues which have been fixed, but nothing really noteworthy that I can think of.
I'm in the process of trying to fix as many of the broken pkgsrc packages for m68k that I can find, though, so I think we'll have many more pkgsrc binaries in the near future than in the past.

Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2010-07-21 15:13:41 I'd help if I could! I'm back at work on the A/UX port. GTK1/2 would be a good place to start, I think. It also surprises me there is no lynx. I know that I'd appreciate xscreensaver, as it was the most-used app on my 68k NB boxen. 😀

Posted by: johnklos on 2010-07-22 14:19:05 I've already built lynx and I've queued up x11/xscreensaver, x11/gtk1 and x11/gtk2 on the m68060 Amiga, so it shouldn't take too long.
I'll post a link for the auto-updated location of binary packages soon.
