G3 Trayload not starting
Posted by: gully on 2010-07-17 04:13:32
Hello

i've been browsing the forums for about a year now. Only now did i see a reason to join.

My iMac g3 first gen trayload will not boot. When you turn it on, the power button is half orange half red. The hard drive and fan come on, and the startup chime plays with a lot of static from the speakers. Nothing comes up on screen. I've reseated the RAM, and reset PRAM.

Is it Saveable? or is it ANOTHER dead G3?

Static on the speaker? Doesn't that usually mean blown caps?

gully,

Did you download any software updates recently? By any chance did one of those include a Firmware Update? If so, then there is a procedure to get it installed on Apple's web site. I don't remember most of it, but I think you have to press a couple of buttons to initiate the process. I think that's why you have that symptom. Let me double check, just in case.

This machine was bought at a garage sale yesterday. So i don't know if it has the update or not.

No blown caps either.
