| Widget drive of a Lisa with problems |
Posted by: mactjaap on 2015-06-07 15:29:56 It spins. Break is releasing. But the head is banging to the end and back. Who knows what is wrong and can it be fixed?

I like Lisas! .....and this pertains to the thread how?
Anyways, I got a drive that does this as well. The final assumptions before I started using it as a doorstop was that either the servo track had failed (presumably from natural degaussing), the disk had crashed or there was a critical failure of the head tracking circuit that could not be repaired without opening and contaminating the HDA.

Posted by: snuci on 2015-06-07 19:08:17 Have you shaken the drive gently to see if anything is loose inside? I ask this because there is a glass head guide that is glued in and literally falls off after some time. I tried to fix mine but it cracked off and was chipped. With a 5MB drive, you could actually open it as long as you didn't sneeze on it 🙂
Here's what the glass guide looks like and my feeble attempt to fix it. If it doesn't go in perfectly, the head is misaligned and it will not work but it was worth a shot anyways. If you hear something rattling around inside, you'll know what it is.
