| DiskWarrior ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2010-06-02 19:11:35 The main HDD for my 466DA gave up the ghost, probably while said G4 was asleep and the utility company decided to yank the BIG PLUG, yet again! [:O] ]'> [:I] ]'> [🙁!] !]'>
I tried to locate all the disk/disk recovery utilities (oodles of 'em) that I've got stashed in several boxes for several different O.S. eras. I ran Norton Disk Recovery, and _____* to be edited in later*_____ , to no avail. I'd unplugged and de-cabled the DOA-Drive so as not to do any more damage (or, worse, forget to hit cancel and re-initialize that wretched HDD!) and had all but given up on it.
Alas, I found AlSoft's DiskWARRIOR today and gave it another shot . . . :🙂
VOILA!!!!! 8-o New directory . . . working drive . . . [😀] ]'> . . . and ATM, the entire drive is being copied over FireWire to the Backup/X-Fer HDD I pulled out of the QS2k last summer. After I snagged it on eBay, I replaced the supplied drive with Bigger & Better, which is my SOP for a new-to-me computer.
When I get home, HOPEFULLY, all the gazillions of files will have been backed up and I can rest easy!
. . . or not! 😛

Don't leave home without it. :cc:

Posted by: tmtomh on 2010-06-02 21:22:22 Yeah, DW is the best at what it does, by far.

Posted by: avw on 2010-06-02 22:26:45 And they still support MacOS 9! Great company!

Posted by: ClassicHasClass on 2010-06-03 23:56:23 I bought a bootable DW 2 disk from them just a few months ago. They still sell and support them.

Posted by: Paralel on 2010-06-04 06:21:32 My kind of company. I just ordered a copy of DW 4 so I will have something on hand for an eventual disk trashing due to failure/user stupidity.

I bought a bootable DW 2 disk from them just a few months ago. They still sell and support them. As opposed to the MORONS at Adobe! I can't believe they couldn't supply backup/replacement media or a even a download for an Illustrator rev. that I not only bought from them, but they admitted they had records of me buying it from them!
< . . . considers sending a registered, return receipt requested, letter directly to John Warnock [}🙂] ]'> . . . >
Adobe = awesome company, BTW. Their customer service department just needs a kick in the @$$! 😱)

Posted by: coius on 2010-06-07 13:39:45 After my mom's Intel iMac hard drive got corrupted, I ended up buying DiskWarrior 4 to recover the directory since Tech Tool Pro couldn't do it (So now I own both) and it boggles me how good DiskWarrior is. Anyways, disk was recovered and data was backed up and system was reinstalled.
Thank god they made it available for download with an immediate serial number so I could get the drive recovered right away. I wasn't thrilled with the fact that they sent me a burned DVD though, and with only Mac OS 10.4 (and not 10.5 or any other thing) so it was not really worth even getting the disk.
So two things you ABSOLUTELY need for OS X/OS 9 disk and hardware maintnance, is TechTool Pro (or Lite at minimum) and DiskWarrior. Those are a MUST.
