Recommendation for SE/30 re-cap service
Posted by: DavidGA on 2015-06-02 12:32:20
My SE/30 needs recapping, and I don't feel confident enough to do it on my own.

Is there a recommendation for someone I can send it to, to get it recapped? I'm in the SF Bay Area.

Most of us here swear by Uniserver, although being in the Bay area you can probably find someone local.

Uni does all my soldering, and I couldn't be happier with his work.  There's a thread around here...

Uniserver recapped my IIci and fixed the sound (though I also had bad memory).

I just sold an SE/30 board and the buyer had me ship it to uniserver (Chales) first before being sent to Europe. But the board has to be in good shape. The SE/30 seems more prone, like the portable, to trace rot.

yeah, maybe you can take a picture and post it, so we can see what your main board looks like?

Add the Quadra 840av to that list.

I probably could do it for you, as I'm somewhat local (North Bay Area).

EDIT: But if it's not working, I'd suggest Uniserver, as he has more experience with lower lever repairs than I do.

Sure, here it is.

Does it boot and work more or less normally?

No, it boots to a pattern of broken vertical stripes.

Add another person to the chorus of those singing uniserver's praises.  He's brought back a number of my machines from the dead.

Do you have a photo of the broken vertical stripes? A simple cleaning and recap (something I could do so you can save on shipping) might fix it if it's SimasiMac, but I want to see it first, as it might be more serious (therefore a job for Uniserver).

😀  ---  I would like to add techknight to my praise,  he has brought back things that have been most certainly dead.

if i'm a bulldog that doesn't give up.

then techknight is a pit bull 🙂

i'm sure even CC-333 could agree with that.

Yeah, he got my Portable working when it was thought to be beyond repair, so he definitely knows his stuff.

As do you!
