| Recommendation for SE/30 re-cap service |
Posted by: DavidGA on 2015-06-02 12:32:20 My SE/30 needs recapping, and I don't feel confident enough to do it on my own.
Is there a recommendation for someone I can send it to, to get it recapped? I'm in the SF Bay Area.

Posted by: MinerAl on 2015-06-02 13:07:33 Most of us here swear by Uniserver, although being in the Bay area you can probably find someone local.
Uni does all my soldering, and I couldn't be happier with his work. There's a thread around here...

Posted by: unity on 2015-06-02 13:53:05 I just sold an SE/30 board and the buyer had me ship it to uniserver (Chales) first before being sent to Europe. But the board has to be in good shape. The SE/30 seems more prone, like the portable, to trace rot.

Posted by: uniserver on 2015-06-02 15:03:45 yeah, maybe you can take a picture and post it, so we can see what your main board looks like?

The SE/30 seems more prone, like the portable, to trace rot. Add the Quadra 840av to that list.
I probably could do it for you, as I'm somewhat local (North Bay Area).
EDIT: But if it's not working, I'd suggest Uniserver, as he has more experience with lower lever repairs than I do.

Does it boot and work more or less normally? No, it boots to a pattern of broken vertical stripes.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2015-06-03 11:13:25 Do you have a photo of the broken vertical stripes? A simple cleaning and recap (something I could do so you can save on shipping) might fix it if it's SimasiMac, but I want to see it first, as it might be more serious (therefore a job for Uniserver).

Posted by: uniserver on 2015-06-03 11:15:31 😀 --- I would like to add techknight to my praise, he has brought back things that have been most certainly dead.
if i'm a bulldog that doesn't give up.
then techknight is a pit bull 🙂

Posted by: uniserver on 2015-06-03 11:17:45 i'm sure even CC-333 could agree with that.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2015-06-03 11:43:51 Yeah, he got my Portable working when it was thought to be beyond repair, so he definitely knows his stuff.
As do you!
