| Should the 1GHZ sonnet Encore be grounded? | |
| Posted by: Green78II on 2010-04-27 09:50:40 I recently came across some more of (and bought one) the 1 GHZ G4 Sonnet Encores on eBay, and I noticed that it doesn't use the stock heat sink, and it doesn't seem to have a provision for the grounding cable in my Beige G3. Am I ok to just remove it, or is there something I'm missing? Other that this, I've checked the voltage regulator and its compatible. I think I'm ok ro run it as it is probably grounded through the power source, but I thought I would still check just in case. As installed: you can see the ground on the stock heatsink still attached.  | |
| Posted by: Green78II on 2010-04-27 10:57:31 I decided to gamble and boot it. Apple SYstem profiler says that its is a processor of unknown type, and it is running at 67 MHZ. Is there something wrong with it? | |
| Posted by: Unknown_K on 2010-04-27 12:34:40 While some units could do 83Mhz the default was 66Mhz FSB bus for the CPU on beige G3 machines, which is what you have. You will need software to get the CPU running to 1Ghz, go check Sonnets site. No, you do not need the ground strap. | |
