Free iBook G4!!!
Posted by: hilga007 on 2010-04-09 11:42:46
Hey ya'll! I just got a free iBook G4 for helping a friend migrate data from it to her MacBook, then connecting her BlackBerry to her MacBook!

Specs:

  • 1.07GHz G4 w/12" Screen
  • 256 MB RAM (I upgraded it to 512)
  • 40GB HD
  • Combo Drive
  • Airport Extreme

I then:

  • Reformatted with 10.5.8
  • Disabled Dock Transparency (greatly improves performance it seems)
  • Disabled Spotlight on everything except Applications (I like to launch Apps with Spotlight)
  • Installed Opera 10 and use Turbo Mode (renders on their servers)

I was surfing with 8 tabs open, while chatting with 4 people on iChat, with Preview and Grab open and didn't notice any major slowdowns! Performance actually seemed better than under 10.3.9...

Great! What computer are you coming from?

Not bad at all. I still have my iBook G4 (1.33), though I'm now using my TiBook/867 a lot more (bigger screen, and I'm trying to eat my dogfood more with Classilla -- between Classilla and MacSSH I'm pretty much covered for on the road usage). However, I think yours will be a lot happier with Tiger.

Jerk!

Seriously, I loved my 1.07 GHz G4 iBook. They're great little machines, and fun to take apart. Enjoy it!

Tell me the next time she wants to burn a DVD. I'll help her out... for an iPad. lol

Very lucky there. I used to own a 1.2ghz iBook but sold it a few years back.
