| found a couple neat backgrounds... |
Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2010-04-02 09:00:52 I stumbled across an old blog post with some nice backgrounds for us retro-Mac types. Unfortunately the full-size originals seem to have disappeared. Maybe someone here grabbed them?

Posted by: MrMacPlus on 2010-04-02 21:00:09 I found a slightly higher-res version: http://www.manzzana.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/2204464029_031477491d_b.jpg

Posted by: MidnightCommando on 2010-04-11 20:26:58 The spotty one is called Arabesque, I have it in 1600 by 1200, and also I have another treat:

The famous picture used on screen in many Macintosh II promo shots:

A nice rendition of the "Chrome Apple" logo, with slight hint of early OS X pinstriping:

An Apple logo embossed into a wooden board. I used this on my beige G3 at the time that the above "Chrome Apple" was on my PowerBook G4:

Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2010-04-12 09:39:07 Very nice, everybody! Keep them coming!
I'd really like to find a larger rendition of the first one I posted. I like the font in the logo.

That font is called Motter Tektura, and a modern freely-redistributable TTF version exists now called Mottek, so it could be feasible if someone has a little experience with Blender to recreate it in higher res.
Of course that font is notable for being the font of "apple computer inc." on some marketing material around the time of the Apple ][+ 🙂

Posted by: ChristTrekker on 2010-04-13 06:41:26 I know the font, and have one of the free clones. 🙂 I just have no design talent whatsoever for trying to recreate the image.

Found at the end of this Photoshop tutorial, if you want to try making your own.

Posted by: slomacuser on 2010-04-23 06:48:52 @ Anonymous Freak where did you got the original Mac II image? I was looking for it long time 😀 is it original or some replica?
|
Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2010-04-23 07:53:25 I had been looking for it for years; posting on boards, pinging people by email that I thought might possibly have it, with no luck.
I had gotten recreations, but they just didn't look right.
Then, randomly, from an unknown email address, I got this one sent to me. It was even in PICT, so I'm about 99.9% sure it's "the real deal". Sadly, I lost the PICT version in a hard drive crash a few years ago.

Posted by: MacJunky on 2010-04-23 13:10:20 If anybody wants "some replica" that is 2650x1600, no shadows, shadow mapped or raytraced and has min 4x4 max 8x8 AA (with any light position I feel like 😛 )then I have my own version of it. Not identical to the original of course, but I do not actually care. 😛 *spews some crap line about creative freedom and junk like that even though he does not consider himself an artist or anything of the sort*
If interested in seeing one or more just let me know what version and I will dump a 7-8MB .tif on ya.

^ rightclick and open in new tab, or middle click, or something

Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2010-04-23 13:32:50 Well, yours are a lot better than the recreations I have seen before. Quite good, really!
|
Posted by: MacJunky on 2010-04-23 14:12:25 Thanks 🙂
It inspired this; if anybody likes this sort of thing:

Just a little warning for dialup users, it is a 1.5MB jpeg 2560x1600 (thumbnail of the full version, click to see full)
The reflections should be reduced a bit and the lighting should be played with but I do not feel like it atm(and it takes 5 mins to render on a 3GHz quad) so.. yea, that is done for now. 😛
|
Posted by: Anonymous Freak on 2010-04-23 14:50:13 Dang... The last time I did any vain attempts at raytracing, it would take an hour to render a 1024x768...
|
Posted by: MacJunky on 2010-04-24 00:47:38

To go with the other one. I cannot see changing it much more aside from getting closer(resulting in distorting the sides ones more) or adding more glowyballs.. but this one actually took 12 mins to render so >_> doubling the time(if not more).. not what I want to do. :S
The reflections are still completely nuts, I should have reduced the max number. 😛
I suppose it needs a real background like a wooden tray or something. I am actually done this time though unless someone has a requested alteration to anything.
/me stops posting stupid backgrounds that nobody will ever use(hell, even I would not use em. too bright and colourful)
