| iMac :D |
Posted by: MultiFinder on 2010-03-28 12:08:44 I just got what I consider one of the most attractive Macs Apple has ever made - the graphite iMac. Mine's a 600MHz Summer 2001 model, decked out with 512 megs of RAM and a CD burner - and all for $20! It's going on my deskbench to be a small work machine over on that end of my room.

Posted by: Hrududu on 2010-03-28 12:29:01 That looks pretty slick with the new chicklet keyboard. I gave my 600MHz Snow to my little brother to use, and its still serving him well. I sure do wish it were a 700MHz model though. That would have been sweet.

Posted by: MultiFinder on 2010-03-28 12:49:45 I'm in love with the speakers in it - they sound amazingly good for a machine like this.

Posted by: LCGuy on 2010-03-28 13:33:04 Very nice score...faster than the iMac I got recently too 🙂 And yes, I have to agree with you on the speakers...apart from the BOSE system on the TAM they're probably the best built in speakers on any Mac.

Posted by: Christopher on 2010-03-29 21:06:20 I love the speakers in those very much, it's just a shame that at lowest volume, I can't use them at night when I had one of those.
Man, now I want a G3 iMac again....

Posted by: Sludgedragon on 2010-03-29 21:16:09 I always wanted a jewel tone iMac, ruby or sage. But I got a graphite much like that one because when it was time to buy it my other choices were (ew) blue dalmatian and (ick) flower power...It's still running at my daughter's house. 🙂

Posted by: Strimkind on 2010-03-29 21:37:16 I always thought it would be interesting to have a Blue Dalmation or FlowerPower iMac. I have not seen one in person but I would pick it up if I saw it.
On the same topic. I picked up an iMac Summer 2000 350mhz Indigo yesterday in box almost brand new, for free 🙂 . Very silent just like new. It was for a grandmother who never used it. It even still has some of the original plastic protection on it.

Posted by: niccyb on 2010-04-02 06:38:15 Very slick machine. I recently dismantled ours after 9 years of sterling service - flyback transformers xx( ...
I'm hoping to win a 500mhz Indigo off ebay, then it's to the chop shop for a nice motherboard transplant and maybe even a case replacement (depends how ambitious I'm feeling)... Up until recently it was being used as a web browsing/music machine. Did the job damned well too.

The iMac G3 speakers do sound really good, but I've always thought the Perfoma 6400/Powermac 6500 had the best internal speakers with the built in subwoofer. Can't say I've ever heard a TAM though.

Posted by: Osgeld on 2010-04-02 13:53:26 the tam (a local store had one on display for a long time) is about what you expect out of a tiny Bose system, good but nothing to get overly snotty about aside from the name
or in other words walk into any mall area electronics shop and listen to a bose computer or bookcase system and you have the idea

Posted by: MultiFinder on 2010-04-02 17:45:59 The speaker in the 6400/6500 (I have a 6500/225) is great for deep, rich sounds, but it really isn't that great for higher (or stereo for that matter, being one speaker) sounds. The iMac had a great range, obviously tilted a bit towards the treble, and equally great volume. Personally, if I had to pick one set of speakers to listen to everything in my life from here on out, I'd go for the iMac.

Posted by: niccyb on 2010-04-02 19:17:01 The great thing about the 6500 is that you can plug in an external set of speakers and then still make use of the sub-woofer. I'm running a pair of old 1994 apple speakers (came with a quadra) with my 6500 and the sound is wonderful. The iMac slot-loaders were a great leap from the tray loader speakers though - ewww...

Very true. The tray loaders sounded good to me until the slot loaders included the new Harmon/Kardon speakers. The amount of power those things produce is unreal. Throw in an iSub and its a really awesome setup.
