17" AlBook power on issue.
Posted by: TheWhiteFalcon on 2015-05-28 12:20:17
I finally got my 65W charger for my G4 PowerBooks. I've got the 1.67GHz model working okay, but the other one (I believe it's a 1.33GHz but I'm not sure) has some kind of issue. Charger power light glows green on insert, when you press the power button you hear the system energize, the hard drive spins up, and then you hear a "peew" as it dies. I've swapped hard drives and RAM and disconnected the optical drive with no change.

This system worked at one point from what I'm told.

Any thoughts? This is the better condition of the two (the 1.67 has no optical, no PC Card, no audio board, etc.) so I'd like to get the other working.

Did you pull out the battery?

No battery installed, unless you mean PRAM?

Well, I pulled the board, checked it, and reinstalled it. No change. Also tried a PRAM reset and PMU reset.

Does is run with the battery from your other one?

Neither has a battery lol. Power adapter only.

Figured out the issue.

This 1.33 board is in a 1.0 case. The guy I got it from had hooked up the sound board and modem board from the 1.0, and from what I can see those don't play together. Disconnected both and it booted.

Of course it keeps freezing after loading the OS, but...
