The $5 iPhone conquest
Posted by: AusNick on 2010-03-09 03:02:15
Folks,

Went to an AUSOM members-only swap meet on the weekend, didn't pick up a much mac stuff, a couple of Pismo CD and DVD drive units, a couple of games, stuff, boxes of stuff, all non apple, but, I did get an iPhone for $5.

Yep.

A genuine Ericsson iPhone, not the all show no substance Apple knock off.

it works, too.

Cool or what?

Pics or it did not happen 🙂

Wait which model number? I want to look it up!

I've got pix on my camera, but I've misplaced my card reader and USB cable for my camera. And I have no idea how or where to upload them to the 'net anyway

As to the model number, all it has on the base is ERICSSON: IPHONE

Pix can be found through Google Image if you search for Infogear iPhone. the only difference between the one in the pictures that you will see, is mine is branded Ericsson. I was telling a mate about it and he said he used to have a Cisco version, he told me the Ericsson version was better.

I'm surprised Ericsson didn't sue for trademark infringement.

Apparently there was some sort of a settlement between Apple and Linksys allowing Apple to use the name.

I personally think Apple should have had their arses sued off. Steve Jobs may be a great salesman, but otherwise he's a ruthless and arrogant bastard.

But I guess to get to where he is, and to get Apple to where it is, you've got to be. I despise the guy, but I have to admit, Apple wouldn't be the force of nature it is without him.

Anyway, the iPhone… anyone know if these things can still surf they net? it's really hard to find out anything about these devices.

Heh, I bet it is. You be all "ok I just google iphone ... owait."

Settlements are cheaper than lawsuits. Besides, it is a really cool name. Apple obviously decided it was worth the money, and Linksys decided to take it. No harm, no foul.

They settled in a way that they would both use it!
