| Has a PowerPC upgrade been installed? |
Posted by: Concorde105 on 2010-03-08 18:31:18 Hello all,
I recently acquired a PowerBook 540c. So far, I'm very happy with it, blah blah and blah. Anyways, as I was snooping around the System Folder, I noticed something: a PowerPC enabler! Yes, I realize that this could be there just because the original owner didn't know what they were doing (oh GOD, that hard drive is a mess), but it could also be if there is a PowerPC upgrade installed! 8-o Is there anyway I can check? It's running 7.5.3.
Thanks for your help!

It's very likely that the install was a "Universal" install for any system. Of course, it is very possible that it has the PowerPC, as well.

Posted by: Concorde105 on 2010-03-08 19:29:47 It may have been a universal install; it appears as if the people who installed the software were from Tiger Foods. :?: They could have just made a universal set of floppies. If System Profiler wasn't under the Apple Menu, where would it be? I already checked there. Sadly, I have no time to boot up the machine and do a search for it. Also, I'm pretty sure System 7 (at least up to 7.5.5) didn't have the System Profiler. Oh well. Thanks!

Posted by: Concorde105 on 2010-03-09 14:03:27 Nope, it doesn't have graphing calculator installed. Once I can get my PC and my 540c to play nice, though, I'll see if I can find a utility to tell me what processor is installed.
Thanks!

Posted by: nanoseq on 2010-04-18 15:28:56 My 540C actually had its little "PowerBook 540C" badge replaced with "PowerPC" so I'm thinking it used to have an official Apple PPC upgrade. Unfortunately, it's just 68k still 😛
