| Recommend a web browser to me please (7.5.5) |
Posted by: mraroid on 2015-05-22 12:09:42 Hi folks....
I just upgraded the OS in my Color Classic (with a Color Classic II logic board) to 7.5.5
After that, I installed a ethernet card and software. The software has a orange sticker on it and it says:
EN Installer DIsk, LC/NuBus Cards, Farallon Computing, Copyright 1994
5000303-00-01, V 2.3
I plugged in a ethernet cable, and found the Farallon software and ran the test. Everything said "OK".
Right now, my Color Classic and my only other computer (a windows 7 box) are both plugged into my wired access node. Can I turn on file sharing on both computers and move files from my Windows computer and the Color Classic?
I have ordered an external SCSI CD drive for my Color Classic. When it arrives, and when ever I can figure out how to install a SCSI driver for this non apple SCSI drive, I can maybe buy a CD of a browser and install it that way (?).
Any suggestions on which would be a good browser to use?
Thanks in advance.

Posted by: nightingale on 2015-05-22 21:03:36 You can try iCab, it is probably the most recent browser for a 68k mac. That being said, it is by no means up to date, and will have trouble displaying most webpages on the net today. Would be fine for viewing webpages like system7today, though, which is a good resource for older software. Don't expect to do much else in terms of web browsing, though. Any https sites are out.

Posted by: nightingale on 2015-05-23 06:42:40 I set that up on my MacBook and tried it out. It's neat, and it works pretty well for viewing pages, but whenever you load a page that has any form elements in it, it seems to break down. But for reading news sites and stuff, it could be useful.
My plan was to have iCab set up as a regular browser, and then have Netscape or some other browser set up with the proxy server for the WebKit.

Posted by: mraroid on 2015-05-23 08:07:48 I will look into WebKit. Mostly I want to use my Color Classic to send and receive my gmail. I hope it can at least do that. I am doing the Mystic upgrade so hopefully, I will have a little more horsepower. Still no 70ns 512K VRAM Simms for the 575 board. Wish I would find some....
Thanks everyone.

Posted by: mraroid on 2015-05-24 14:21:59 I need the 70ns version of what you posted the link to. This will allow me to run a faster processor - I am changing out the crystal on the 575 as well.
Maybe they have some? I will call them.
Thanks!!
