G4 AGP Graphics
Posted by: beachycove on 2010-01-31 16:14:17
Via a local kijiji seller: a 400MHz G4 AGP Graphics with 1GB RAM and a nice, quiet 20GB hard drive. It was filthy (smoker and dust) so it was disassembled and washed and is drying out as I write.

One welcome bit is that it also had a GeForce 4MX AGP card installed, which will make a nice upgrade for my G4 Cube. The tower itself is destined for a Drupal project, or if that proves too much of a stretch, WordPress.

Will an AGP Mac run without an AGP card but with PCI video instead?

I've never dealt with an AGP Mac before, but I know for a fact that a PC with an AGP slot will quite happily run with only a PCI video card, so I can't see how a Mac would be any different.

My Quicksilver is currently using a PCI card since it gave up its AGP GeForce2 MX for my Cube. 🙂

(16MB Rage, but that machine is in server duty and only used over screen sharing, but it works well!)

The G4 tower has just been turned on after being cleaned up and allowed to dry out (necessary as the cleaning included a hosing of the power supply, which surely emitted enough nicotine and tar to stun an elephant — why do people do this to their lungs?).

This is just to confirm that it works perfectly without the AGP card installed and with only PCI graphics.
