| Macintosh LC 520 |
Posted by: 3583Bytes on 2015-05-18 22:27:04 I recently got a Macintosh LC 520. It has System 7.1 installed but it contains a whole bunch of old garbage & extensions so I wanted to do a fresh install. However when I insert my 7.1 install disk I get an error that 7.1 is not supported on this Mac (tried several versions). Is there a special version of 7.1 I need for it? Can someone point me to an image?
Thanks

You need to make a boot floppy with a blessed system folder containing 403 so that it is bootable on your specific machine, then when it is booted, copy 403 over to the hard drive's 7.1 System Folder. After that it will boot right up. 🙂
I made myself an almost universal 7.1 boot floppy for such situations which is actually a copy of the Disk Tools floppy from my set of genuine LCIII diskettes, but has all of the enablers that I am likely to use dropped into the folder such that if I switch hard drives (which I semi-regularly do due to failures or for testing etc), I can just floppy-boot it, drop the required enabler in and be on my way. 🙂

Great thank you, I actually wondered what the file was in the System Folder. So I just need to copy that to the Install Floppies and off I go?

Posted by: Schmoburger on 2015-05-19 12:27:31 Yep! Straight into the bootable floppies blessed System folders and they are good to boot off... then just copy into your 520's System Folder on it's hard drive and restart and it should boot right through. 🙂
