| Just checking... |
Posted by: macgeek417 on 2009-12-15 16:57:52 My current sig isn't too long, is it? IIRC, someone said "more than 3 or 4 lines is probebly too much" and it's about 4 lines of size=100 text, so just checking before someone bites my head off for having "too long of a signiture"

Posted by: Mars478 on 2009-12-15 17:02:59 I really do not think the line seperations are necessary. And the poll options are too spaced apart.
|
Posted by: macgeek417 on 2009-12-15 17:06:46 It didn't make any sense without the line seperation after I modified it. And the " - " takes up 3 characters that could be used for other stuff.

Posted by: macgeek417 on 2009-12-15 17:21:51 There. I added a link to my user page so later I can add stuff to said user page.
Guess I'll keep my sig like that till I get a new machine. Then I wikk put my main machines and put below that my other machines as a link.
Personaly, I don't think BBCode tags should count though. It actually takes up MORE space to make my sig SMALLER

Posted by: Mars478 on 2009-12-15 17:23:09 Why not put it all in a line like I have done?
And How did you link in your sig? I thought that was removed.

Posted by: Mars478 on 2009-12-15 17:38:35 Ahh whatever π
I added a Wiki page.

Posted by: macgeek417 on 2009-12-15 17:44:29 Cool. Personaly, I like my placeholder better.
Template:Alert dialog with no buttons that says:
Please insert disk
Please insert the disk "There is nothing here"

Posted by: macgeek417 on 2009-12-15 18:26:47 There. I put stuff on my user page. Now it is v.1.1.1.3.4.6.9.8 Pro Basic!
|
Posted by: LCGuy on 2009-12-15 21:07:24 Its better than it was, but really, I second Mars478's suggestion to put all your systems in one or two lines, like he has. There's no real reason for them to all be on a separate line.

" - " takes up 3 characters that could be used for other stuff. So drop the redundant cruft:
Nicknames (because no-one cares)
"Summer 2000" (doesn't tell us much; instead ie "DV400")
"Now devoted to" and "the" (and "!" :π )
"Macintosh" (we know who made the LCIII, ta)
"My 68kMLA wiki" ("User Page" is enough)
"68k Macs Liberated: 1 " (we can already see that)
and
"Compaq". (Preferably off a cliff)

Posted by: Cory5412 on 2009-12-16 06:18:34 What if you made it so that your signature had just three lines.
Line 1: a system or gadget that you want to feature that week. your newest, one you've been using a lot, or just something you pulled out of the closet and found interesting that week.
Line 2: a quote or project or other tidbit that you might want to share. Something like copy bunny but MUCH shorter.
Line 3: a link to your user page, where all of your systems and projects and things might be listed permanently. That or do the cool thing and go without a signature. All of the cool kids are doing it these days.
|
Posted by: II2II on 2009-12-16 14:43:25 I'm the type of person who thinks that a 2 line signature is more than too much. But it doesn't really matter on this forum anymore: if you don't like long signatures you can simply turn them off. (Same for avatars of questionable taste.)
|
Posted by: iMac600 on 2009-12-16 22:07:32 There's nothing wrong with a 2-liner. I wouldn't go any further than a 3 though. I cut mine down as such and it seems to work fine.

Posted by: register on 2009-12-19 01:10:58 Because I had my first experience with remote transmission about twenty years ago, using a modem to connect to simple mailboxes, I value the bandwidth (as anyone of us appreciates a snappy internet connection). Even in case you have many of kilobytes per second at hand, you might disapprove of orderly waste of transmission capacity.
