OK, I finally have OS X 4.11 on my Pismo and it is pretty nice...I thought I'd have more of a transition after so long in the classic OS. (The Pis also has 9.2 installed on it for Classic mode, thank goodness.)
Here's my question. Why the heck doesn't the finder show the open applications anymore? I can't believe that is hidden so deeply in this OS. With more RAM on this machine, memory is less of an issue, but I'd still like to know. Am I missing something that's right under my nose to show what apps are running?

The circle under an application on the Dock means that it's open. I believe that was the supposed replacement for the app menu AFAIK.

I dislike the modern MacOSX finder, I dislike modern applications doing their damndest to avoid daring to open another window and shove it all in the same window making it truely difficult to drag content from one folder to another.
I was brought up with GUIs that in order to move files you did a drag&drop. I dislike the modern expectation that you'll be using the clipboard to transfer files. It goes against my mental model of whats going on, because the file does not go into the clipboard, it's all a lie!!!!

Thanks JRL, I hadn't noticed that. That'll help, at least. Having that functionality come out of the finder per se still seems like an odd choice to me. It was a very fast way to get back to a program one had minimized. The dock is less intuitive, somehow.
I sympathize, Porter, with your POV. One of the oddest things about the current Windows Office versions that I use at work is the erratic clipboard behavior in Word and Excel. I used to like Word; now I hate it. Getting the Pismo for my personal use has energized me to find a writing program that I actually like to use again!
And in any of the current OSs, moving files around from place to place is kind of a PITA. I tend to do all of my file move cleanups off the desktop in a clump of activity, because it can be time-consuming.

...and such are the reasons some of us continue to use the old MacOS. For certain purposes, it really does allow the user to work faster and more humanely.

Being able to work "humanely" is just as subjective has being "humane". I find the current iteration of MS Office to be acceptable, but thats not to say I dont love me some Claris Works.
