Help! Microsoft Word 5.1
Posted by: fanman93 on 2009-11-10 12:49:25
I'd like to get Microsoft Word 5.1 up and running on Mini vMac, but I have absolutely no clue how to get this on to it. Here is the link http://www.macintoshgarden.org/apps/microsoft-word

I have tried using HFVExplorer without success. For some reason, SIT files hate me. Help!

So it's illegal to assist him?

A mod will move the topic in due time.

Step-by-step instructions:

1. download this: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/minivmac/blanks-0.2.0.zip

2. download this: http://macgeek417.uni.cc/files/System_Software/System%206.0.6%20System%20Startup.dsk (I would upload 6.0.8, but this'll work in a pinch...

3. download Mini vMac

4. download all of these: http://macgeek417.uni.cc/downloads.php?dir=Vintage_Mac_Software%2FMicrosoft_Word_5.1_Diskset%2F

5. put all of these files in a folder, and extract the hfs24M.dsk file from the hfs24M.zip file in the blanks-0.2.0.zip file.

6. locate a copy of a Mac Plus ROM (vMac.ROM). The admins wont let me direct link to this, but it should be easy to find.

7. rename the hfs24m.dsk file to disk1.dsk

8. make sure all of the files - the disk1.dsk tha minivmac file and the vmac.rom file are in the same folder.

9. launch Mini vMac.

10. drag the system 6.0.6 disk image onto the minivmac window (it should have a blinking ?.

11. drag the disk1.dsk file onto the window with the ? mark thingy.

12. in the emulated mac plus, open "System Startup"

13. in the emulated computer, drag "System Folder" to the other disk - iirc its called untitled.

14. close and reopen minivmac. the disk1.dsk file should auto mount and it should appear at the desktop within a second or two, unless your computer is slow.

15. drag "Install.img" to the window like you did the other disks.

16. run the installer. select the 24m/untitled disk as the destination and install, mounting disks as needed.

17. when the install is done, close and reopen the emulator.

18. Done!
