| Macs + More |
Posted by: SuperToaster on 2015-05-03 16:47:46 Saturday there was a recycling program at a church and I volunteered to help with the electronics. Most of the people there were really nice but this one guy hated me, he wouldn't let me save the 3 iMac G3s that looked really nice, or the iMac G5 and a couple of iBooks, but i did get away with taking the LC III and a Macbook Pro plus a lot of other items.
I ended up getting an iPhone (broken)
the LC III which works perfectly,
here's the iPad that I got that for some reason was thrown away, it works fine, although being an iPad 1 +3G model,
unfortunately, this macbook is the problematic model. it does turn on, but gets kernel panics upon trying to install an OS.
Sad to see someone wanted to throw away a perfect Game Gear, it came in a bag with 2 games.
Both these Gameboy Advances worked fine, one of them had a weird case on it and was disgusting, but it cleaned up into a working state.
The Wii works. Strangely, the system was in a used condition but all the cabling was in its package, new.
This Handycam looked like a nice addition to my camera collection, so I grabbed it.
I do not know why someone would throw away a Dell XPS 720. This machine has all its parts in it except the hard drive and is now my main computer.
2 out of the three xbox worked.
This PS2 was thrown out, but it worked great. Included all the cords and 2 controllers when it was in the huge pile

It's a shame someone tossed that iPad, I'd like to get a first gen some time.

Posted by: SuperToaster on 2015-05-03 18:57:23 you know this was perfectly good stuff, seems one would rather sell some of this stuff then toss it

Posted by: 3583Bytes on 2015-05-03 19:48:23 I live near a e-recycle drop off. The stuff I find there is unbelievable, I often wonder why would people toss this stuff. Never a retro Mac though. Lots of iPods old iPhones powerbooks etc. My favourite find was 3 original game boys 2/3 worked.

Posted by: Juror22 on 2015-05-03 20:58:49 Incredible haul! The XPS appears nice - I haven't seen older Macs (like the LC) show up on a doorstep (outside of eBay or here) in some time, here in downstate IL.

Almost never get so much at once.
Yes people toss a lot of fine equipment. I get the same kind of Wii for my kid for 3 euros in working condition and a nice LCD tv for next to nothing.
The Xbox lot is nice as well.

Posted by: Byrd on 2015-05-04 03:46:11 That's an awesome haul in one swoop, I found a Dell XPS 720 a few years ago too, with a faulty motherboard - apparently a very common fault. Standard ATX though so would make a fantastic base for a new PC.

Posted by: galgot on 2015-05-04 04:10:40 Crazy how people throw thing… an iPad .
@bibilit , you know where to find these kind of recycle haul here in france ? My main source for stuff is Bay or le bon coin...

Posted by: Sherry Haibara on 2015-05-04 06:27:28 Nice haul! You could try and save that MacBook Pro with a reflow, probably (and since it's already damaged, it won't hurt anyway).

@bibilit , you know where to find these kind of recycle haul here in france Not really, from time to time car boot sales or flea markets have been good to me (the WII was found in a flea market, the seller didn't know anything about it except it could be plugged on TV...hence the price)
Recycle companies around my home won't allow anyone to save anything from the bins... it's a shame, but that's it.

Posted by: SuperToaster on 2015-05-04 08:11:26 Even if the motherboard is busted in the XPS there is still really nice components inside. I'm surprised the owner didn't salvage the really nice parts on the inside.
