Idea! Macpedia!

What if there was a wiki about old macs where we combined Jag's House, Gamba, and others links into one place to make finding info easier? It would be similar to the 68kMLA wiki but with links to projects, rare items, etc...

What do you think?

Good IDEA!

Um....

What about the 68kMLA Wiki?

Why do we need a second Wiki for this? Surely it's better to concentrate the effort on one to avoid having to do the same work done. A lot of the ground work is done on the MLA Wiki already... but we really need people to contribute content. We'd be grateful for anything* in any form, as even rough draft is a good starting point to get others involved.

* Aside for links to copyrighted material/software, obviously.

Yeah we should put more effort into the wiki...

I made the expansion card and ethernet pages with help from JRL.

I will volunteer to write descriptions of educational software programs for 68K Macs, including how they can be used in a modern setting and can meet the educational focus of today's schools (i.e. relating OutNumbered to the current goals of NCTM).

.....Maybe stuff like that could go in a 68kmla.org/wiki/Articles/The_name_of_the_page with /wiki/Articles being an index?

Yes, I suppose we should modify the 68kMLA Wiki instead of making a new one (at least now I don't have to host it) but I don't like the layout of the wiki very much. I think it is very disorganized and hard to find many things of value (sorry but I do). Does anyone else feel this way? :?: What do you use for the Wiki software anyway?

Certainly there are a lot of areas that could be improved. Feel free to make any changes you like!

What do you use for the Wiki software anyway?
MediaWiki, the software that is developed for Wikipedia, etc.

BTW, I've moved this to the Wiki forum.

Generally speaking, we shouldn't have subpages in the main namespace. Don't embed categorization/hierarchy into the name. For example, we have a [wiki]Tutorials[/wiki] page for an index, and a [wiki]Category:Tutorials[/wiki] to organize everything under. We also have [wiki]Category:Software[/wiki] for factual articles about the software and [wiki]Category:Essays[/wiki] for whatever other Mac-related ramblings you might want to write.

Everything is categorized fairly logically, naming is straightforward, we try to have index pages where relevant. What do you find disorganized? I'll admit a certain bias as I've been heavily involved in the current wiki organization, but I'd really like to know what we can do to make it better.

How do you add a new page?

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out.

I think that this role has already been given to the 68k MLA wiki. Why do we need to second one? If you're interesting in writing about vintage Mac's, then I suggest you add to the current 68k MLA wiki.

I think this is a AWESOME IDEA :approve: ! We could replace the confusing 68kmla wiki with it!

You're the second person to say the wiki is confusing, but I have yet to hear any specifics. So I'll repeat myself...

If you have any specific issues, get involved and try to resolve them. We're open to extra help and new ideas.

How is it confusing? Why do we need a SECOND wiki for it?

The 68kMLA Wiki allready fills the role of a "68k MacPedia"
