Show hidden files (not in OS X)

Just wondering is there any control panel or extension that can get the Finder to always show hidden files? Currently I have to use DiskTop to see what I'm not supposed to see. It does the job fine, I'm just curious if there are other ways that I've missed.

Modify the Finder to ignore the Hidden attribute for files. I have no idea how this would be done, though.

I eventually found one called Snitch (once Google stopped giving me Snow Leopard hits) which kinda did what I wanted but it was a bit messy.

Then I found FileBuddy and that's perfect!
