| New to the site... |
Posted by: UltraNEO* on 2009-09-27 12:00:15 Hey all, I'm new to the site!! Kinda thought I come introduce myself a little 🙂
I'm Akira from Greater Manchester, England. Been using Macs ever since they introduced System 7 way back ummm.. then :🙂 Like most people I've gradually moved over to MacOSX whilst keeping up to date with the latest applications which goes to make my work-life a little easier 😛 somewhere along the lines I've managed to neglect the good ole days of modular MacOS and today I've forgotten how to get the thing working!! :O Anyway, I have somewhow managed to collect a small collection of Mac's of the years and recently acquired a perfectly formed Color Classic with all it's original documentation minus it's software but it's system software that's pre-installed is all in bleedin' Italian! :scrambled:
Anyway... I'm here to contribute my technical know-how and learn something new from others.
For anyone interested, I have some Apple stuff posted on my flickrâ„¢

Welcome aboard, comrade, sounds like you've already got the 68kMLA spirit! 😎 Thanks alot! Yeah, kinda... It needs english system software! I found a source but I need to workout how I get them to the CC, it's kinda isolated without any network connection, poor thing xx(

Hey you finally joined 🙂 BTW, I am the one who answered you on MacRumors |) :rambo: Yep! I finally got my act together and joined the army :approve:
Still ain't got that CC running yet 8-o Though it's sitting in my studio floor in one of those tidy boxes looking all sad and gloom, poor thing...
no wait, actually, i'll set it up for a shot.
Here you go.. 🙂
ColorClassic, G4 Cube, PB Titanium

MacPro with it's displays and the G5 (off frame, next to MP)
Actually, there's another three MacBooks (13, 15 and 17) in the room!!

I have the system software from the PowerMac on CD somewhere...
I thought about borrowing the SCSI optical drive from the 7500 and make up some SCSI host card to interface with the CC.
Perhaps the one from the MO drive will be suitable? Hmmmmm....
BTW, here's the thread which brought me here.. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=785685
Thanks Mars478, it's nice to be amongst friends :b&w:

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2009-09-27 21:30:02 Have you got a "Printer Cable" for your CC? If so, it's a null modem cable and you can use a terminal/file transfer package.
If you have a USB <-> Mac serial adapter for your other Macs it wouldn't be difficult at all to do your file transfers. If you've got a PC laying around a DIN 8 <-> DB-25 cable isn't all that hard to come by, and a straight thru cable can be easily adapted to a null modem config.

Posted by: UltraNEO* on 2009-09-28 13:29:21 So basically what your saying is, connect both CC and PowerMac up via a printer cable and transfer files from one terminal to the other? But how I make the connection if I need to do a full and clean installation?

But how I make the connection if I need to do a full and clean installation? (a) get an external SCSI CD-ROM
( B) get a SCSI-ethernet adapter
© get a LocalTalk->Ethernet adapter
