| Macintosh SE with Radius Accelerator 16 |
Posted by: JRL on 2009-09-22 19:13:01 Going to get it on LEMSwap for $21 shipped (aka for the cost of shipping).
The seller told me it has some screen burn, and the floppy has some difficulty with accepting/ejecting disks (but I have an 800k external drive) and the case is yellowed and has sticker goo on it. Still really happy though.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2009-09-22 21:49:02 Worth it for the Radius card alone.
One of the things I would have liked to collect (but they are too rare or expensive these days) were compacts with all the old school 68020/68030 accelerators found in SE and earlier models. There were a dozen or more companies the ceased to exist when OS 7 started coming out along with the 68040 systems. So much history and variety in that era.
Still need to find a decent case for my messed up SE 800K model.

Worth it for the Radius card alone. Concur! The 800k SE/Radius16 was my main production machine and I ran it constantly, the '16 has an onboard FPU and a daughtercard slot for an FPD or TPD VidCard!
I LOVED that setup until I upgraded to a used IIx with the inexpensive 19" Panasonic B&W Monitor. Now THAT was sweet! Same clock rate, but on an '030, 1.4 FDDs, FPU and PMMU! Quite an improvement over the SE/Radius 16 all by itself, but I'd bought it as a launch pad for a Radius Rocket! That 33MHz '040 beast with 32 MB of onboard PC RAM saw me thru the entire Quadra era without ANYTHING being able to keep up with it until the release of the 880AV!
Radius Products ROCK! . . . Rocked(?) . . . whatever . . . snatch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [😀] ]'>

Posted by: JRL on 2009-09-26 06:57:52 I'm actually seriously pumped up about this too, as this is one of the better deals I've gotten and this will be my first working Compact Mac.

You should be! Keep your eye out for the Radius FPD, the cards aren't all that hard to come by, but the monitors are rare. The one time I tried to get one on eBay the seller tried to whack me with a ludicrous S&H charge and wouldn't let me pick it up.
If you ever see one, SNAG IT! I'll try to test out my new HP AIO's Scanner on one of my ancient Radius brochures to let you & the younger comrades see just how 😎 the FPD/SE combo looks. [😉] ]'> |

Are those the monitors I should look for?

Posted by: Nairon on 2009-10-20 16:04:21 I have a Radius '020/25 Accelerator in an SE FDHD. It's quite a nice combination. A few years ago, I also picked up a Radius TPD. The setup requires a "Magic Bus" adapter card to connect to the accelerator in order to drive the TPD, but once I found this, it does make for a nice setup, circa 1990.

That looks to be the ticket, if you want Two Page Goodness to go w/the Radius16/SE, I prefer the FPD myself, looks a LOT better sittin' next to the SE! [😉] ]'>

Posted by: JRL on 2009-11-03 17:14:48 Alright, it's here! It had a install of 7.0 and 4 MB of RAM. It's indeed yellowed, but it works great! It even has the original Radius Accelerator 16 sticker on it.
The Radius software wasn't installed though. Anybody have any idea where I can find it? The Mac Driver Museum link is dead.

I have some files for a radius SE accelerator (did they make more then 1?) PM your email and I will send it along.

Posted by: JRL on 2009-11-08 21:52:21 Thanks! Got the RadiusWare disk installer; everything installed fine, but I don't get the opening screen on startup.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2009-11-08 23:15:37 Is there a control panel installed you can check to see if the accelerator is running?
Much easier with newer Daystar upgrades on IIci's that replace the happy mac with one that says 040 on it so you know it is running on boot.

Posted by: JRL on 2009-11-09 07:11:30 The Control Panel isn't showing up in the CP menu.

Posted by: JRL on 2009-11-11 20:18:14 Bad news; MacEnvy reports an 8 MHz 68000. 🙁
I still have hope that the processor card got unseated slightly somehow.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2009-11-11 20:52:26 What rev of RadiusWare are you running? Your problem/setup doesn't sound kosher at all to me!
IIRC, ALL my RadiusWare info and All revisions from the 16 under OS 6 thru the Rocket & RocketShare under 7.0.1 and the ones for my Monitors are all in one big ZipLoc Bag in one of my toy boxes. Post your specs and I'll see what I can dig up. [😉] ]'>

Posted by: JRL on 2009-11-11 21:09:21 I'm just using the Accelerator 2.9 CP, which I installed via a RadiusWare 2.0 disk from an image that Unknown_K sent me, which AFAIK is the correct one. The first trouble came when I got an message from the installer saying that the installer could not find anything to install that belonged to my current configuration; I still chose "Customize" and installed the software under the option for Plus and SE accelerators.
Current specs are:
4 MB of RAM
20 MB Miniscribe (running great)
Fresh System 6.0.8 install
I can't get the dialog box as described in the Radius Accelerator FAQ to pop up either when I hold the mouse down during a reset. Am I supposed to do that with the programmer's switch?
